These songs were written and recorded in late 2020, early 2021 while living in the Hudson Valley of New York.
'Cruelty' was written the day after January 6th, 2021 when some assholes attempted to destroy democracy. I felt myself feeling surprisingly patriotic and, despite the many qualms I have with my home country, wanted to write a song about not giving up on it.
'Spring of 88' is a song about a half-sister I've never met, whom my mother gave up for adoption before I was born. In a strange twist of fate, my sister was found through the miracles of the internet later in 2021.
'When The Thought Goes Away' is a song about growing up and giving up on organized religion.
'YAIK' is a song about not being able to forget my ex-girlfriends phone number, despite the number of years it's been since we broke up.

An album of tunes by Tim Berne played on acoustic guitar is not a thing that I realized I needed. Gregg Belisle-Chi (produced by Berne and David Torn) does something remarkable and organic on Koi, simultaneously distilling Berne’s compositions to their essential elements and imbuing them with a new kind of life. accordeonaire
